Check out our newest features!

new features

June was an extraordinary month with 20 power users on Visual BACnet providing us with regular feedback. Our development team was kept busy adding features and making changes to the product. Over the last six weeks we have launched many new features and made pre-existing features more user-friendly. Take a look below for a few of the biggest additions.

1. Network health is now explained.

The updated network health score is clickable. Now you can see exactly how the score is calculated, and understand how you can improve it.

To calculate the network health, each diagnostic check is classified as either a “scored check” or a “critical check.” The scored checks are graded out of 5, 10, 20, or 50 depending on their importance, and these make up the base percentage score. Examples of scored checks include:

  • Unanswered who-is
  • Unconfirmed-COV traffic
  • Long response times
  • Error PDUs

High volumes of any of these result in a lower network health score.

The critical checks are those diagnostic checks that reflect a huge problem in the network. If one of the critical checks fails, it automatically deducts 10%, 20%, or 30% from the final score to reflect the severity of the failure. Examples of critical checks are:

  • Circular networks
  • Duplicate device IDs
  • BACnet buffer full broadcasts

The scored checks, minus any critical checks, make up the final network health.

2. Missing ACKs and Error PDUs now accessible.

Through our new statistics summary section you can access the missing ACKs and the error PDUs with their corresponding confirmed REQ.

When a device sends a "confirm request" to another device or the BMS and does not receive an acknowledgment, it will show up under “missing ACKs.” You can then drill down into these by service choice, into the specific packets where the missing ACKs exist. Error PDUs can also be accessed with their matching "confirm request."

3. Packet browser allows you to drill into your pcap file.

Isolate just the packets you need based on your own requirements using our packet browser. Save time filtering in Wireshark and Excel by using our packet browser.

Choose to drill down into your packets by source, destination, PDU type, or network. From there, you can sort and select different options until you find the packet of interest.

4. Get immediate answers by chatting with our team.

Visual-BACnet-Chat.pngUse our chat in the bottom right hand corner to ask us questions about Visual BACnet or your file, get advice, and let us know if there is something the tool can’t do for you. Our chat gives you instant access to network experts and our developers. We are here to help with Visual BACnet related queries, as well as any questions about what you are seeing happening in your network.
